GreenTec Capital at the Stars in Africa EU-Africa Youth & Entrepreneurship Forum

Nairobi (Kenya), March 2018.  This week, GreenTec Capital Partners’ Sofien Sidhoum and Erick Yong were at the Stars in Africa EU-African Youth & Entrepreneurship Forum, in Nairobi, Kenya. The Forum was held on March 6th and 7th at the iHub in Nairobi and represents the result of a global initiative promoting young entrepreneurs as the pillars of inclusive and sustainable growth in Africa.

This was the first edition of the Stars in Africa (SIA) event, organized by MEDEFAGYP Powered by MEDEF and MEDEF International is a grand gathering of more than 1,000 do-ers, businesses, decision market-makers, high level stake holders, key economic actors and start-ups operating in innovative sectors. The event was opened by Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, who said “This is a great time to invest and to prosper in Africa. Today’s venue, iHub, is home to young innovators and entrepreneurs and speaks to the creativity, boldness and resolute spirit of our young people, who seek to use their ideas to prosper, working with partners from around the world. And they are thriving because Africa is changing. Africa is marching away from a narrative of helplessness to that of hard work and prosperity, anchored on investment and trade.”  Stars in Africa identifies itself as “do-tank” and event promoting six axes of growth: Digital & Tech, Agribusines, Culture, Energy & Environment, Culture, Health & Better Health, and Education & Training. Stars in Africa is planned as a three-year momentum with annual B2B meetings aimed at contributing to the Africa 2030 goals. The event included high-level speakers, masterclasses, start-up pitch competitions and monetary awards and support for start-ups.

Sofien Sidhoum, participated in the event as a moderator on the finance panel and Erick Yong attended as a speaker, presenting on GreenTec’s model and perspectives on entrepreneurial empowerment. The Forum presented many excellent networking opportunities and the GreenTec team were very impressed by the selection in innovative start-ups. Again we are pleased to see the African start-up ecosystem developing with initiatives focusing on promoting youth entrepreneurship. We look forward to attending the Stars in Africa events in the future.
