Portrait of entrepreneurs at the WSA

Vienna (Austria), March 2018. Last month, AgroCenta and GreenTec’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) – Moses Acquah attended the World Summit Award (WSA) Global Congress 2018, March 20-22nd in Vienna, Austria. The event was themed “Social Impact through Digital Innovation” and brought together social entrepreneurs from over 80 countries who will come together to share and discuss how ICTs and interactive applications can have a positive and sustainable impact on society. AgroCenta attended as winners in the “Environment and Green Energy Category,” while Moses attended as a WSA Youth Ambassador.

The WSA’s were founded in 2003 in the frame of the United Nations World Summit on the Information Society (UN WSIS). The conference’s aim was to make information and communication technology accessible to everyone and help bridge the digital divide. The awards aim to contribute to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals by recognizing locally developed digital solutions that achieve positive social and environmental impacts.

AgroCenta was selected as the best national digital solution for Ghana and was selected by an online jury for World Summit Award in the Environment and Green Energy Category. AgroCenta was one of five companies recognized in this category and one of 45 nominees to receive a WSA award from a pool of more than 350 nominees. Once again, GreenTec is very proud to see AgroCenta’s business model recognized in international competitions.

GreenTec’s CTO also attended the WSA’s in supporting as a Youth Ambassador, leveraging his expertise in technology to aspiring young entrepreneurs. The event provided excellent networking opportunities as well as a diverse and novel range of digital solutions developed to solve local problems. We were very impressed with the range of innovations and hope to see more GreenTec investees recognized at the WSA’s.
