Boreal Light GmbH selected as winner of the 2020 Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award

Dubai (UAE) and Frankfurt (Germany), February 2020. GreenTec Capital Partners are very pleased to report that Boreal Light GmbH has been selected as a winner of the 2020 Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award. Boreal Light was recognized with the second place title in the Innovative Projects Award for Small Projects category. Boreal Light joined 10 winners from 8 countries recognized with the 2020 Global Water Award.

This was the 2nd Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award, which was founded to address problems of global water scarcity as well as to promote the United Arab Emirate’s goal of goal to become a knowledge-based economy with a strong focus on technology, R&D and innovation. The 1 million USD award is intended to encourage research institutions, individuals, and innovators from around the world to develop sustainable and innovative solutions to water scarcity that use solar power. Boreal Light’s Hamed Behesti attended the award ceremony in Dubai to accept the award on behalf of the team. His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Media Council and Chairman of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, honoured the 10 winners of the award. The UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia) (, under the umbrella of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, oversees the award, which has three main categories: Innovative Projects Award, Innovative Research and Development Award, and the Innovative Individual Award.

Winning in the Small Projects category of the Innovative Projects Award is the latest recognition of Boreal Light’s innovative WaterKiosk project and continues to validate the company’s business model at international competitions.
