Frankfurt (Germany) and Lusaka (Zambia), May 2021. GreenTec Capital is very pleased to report that WidEnergy Africa has secured funding from OPES-LECF. WidEnergy was one of two African companies to receive funding through their Restart East Africa vehicle to address female underrepresentation in the renewable energy sector.
The OPES-LCEF Impact Fund has a portfolio of 17 investment distributed across 11 countries that targets early-stage investments into companies improving lives at the bottom of the pyramid. The fund invested in WidEnergy Africa and Rwanda’s Munymax through their Restart East Africa investment vehicle, which is supported by the Doen and Good Energies Foundations.
The funding comes as WidEnergy’s latest success, following on their recent selection as a GSMA Innovation Fund Mobile Internet Adoption and Digital Inclusion grantee. WidEnergy will use the funding to continue extending the reach of their rural distribution network.
